Tournament Results
GTK participated in Master Blum's "Battle In The Valley" Tournament held at the Casperkill Country Club in Poughkeepsie, N.Y., on Saturday, April 29, 2006. This was the fourth year that we competed, and our students once again displayed their talents.
We had seven competitors in kata, sparring, self-defense, and breaking competing in a field over 200. Jerome Betz and his father, Jerome and mother, Nancy were in attendance. The Tauber family in full force: Mark, Kim, Nicholas, Alexa and Morgan with Kim, Alexa and Morgan competing. Les and Barb Street and Colleen Atkinson with her husband, daughter and aunt. For the
Tauber's and Colleen, this was their first time in Poughkeepsie.
Jerome's 3rd in breaking is sweet because he competed against 14 other blackbelts to tie for 2nd. He did an awesome tie breaker with a jumping spinning ax kick but they chose the girl's elbow break.
Barb Street became our 1st Grand Champion in self defense with the assistance of her uke, Les. Congratulations! She said "No again and again" but the judges said "Yes, yes, yes."
This is a good tournament to attend. It is well run and the facilities are top notch. Plus if you chose, you can stay overnight at Best Western which is within 1/4 mile of the Club.
